Manitoba's first Adapted Yoga, Seated Stretch and Strength is a new program which has been featured on Shaw Cable TV,  CBC News and in the Winnipeg Free Press. It is now available to anyone who is searching for an effective and gentle form of exercise and relaxation. The poses are designed for people with disabilities or special needs, pregnant women, as well as those who lack standing tolerance or have trouble getting down on the floor and may not be able to participate in other forms of exercise.  Great for seniors too!  All the poses are done while the participants are seated safely on a chair or in their wheelchair. The breathing and poses will target upper body, trunk and lower body as tolerated.

 

This program was developed by Marnie Courage, Occupational Therapist and is conducted by a Certified Yoga Instructor to meet the health and wellness needs of Manitobans who are limited by their physical condition or are living with disability or disease, including: Cancer, ALS, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, Orthopedic Conditions, Arthritis, Amputation, Polio, Spinal Cord Injury, Brain Injury, Stroke, etc. Each participant must fill out the Registration and Waiver of Liability from before engaging in this activity. If  you are a member of the Independent Living Resource Centre, Liesure Program, your registration fee may be covered, inquire at ILRC by phoning 947-0194.

  • Our Certified Yoga instructor will come out to teach Adaped Yoga in your community
  • Our Instructors are flexible and work around your busy schedules
  • Classes are usually provided once a week for 8 week sessions 
  • Participants will fill out a registration form and will be screened by the occupational therapist to ensure Adapted Yoga is a good fit for each individual
  • Minimum of 6 people in a group
  • $100/class-for groups of 10 or more people  (If less than 10 people in your group $12/person)
